Since this is a power leveling skinning guide I assume you are at a high level and want to speed through skinning. If you are at a low level I would just skin as you go along, you will get to the highest level while you play the game naturally.
Tip: Remember, the corpse must be looted before skinned. You can work out what level corpse you can skin by this calculation.
If your skinning is below 100: (Take your skinning skill, divide it by 10 and add it by 10. So if you are 80 skinning, divide by 10 = 8 + 10 = level 18 max skinnable.
If your skinning is greater than 100, just divide your skinning level by 5. So if you had 200 to skinning, you could loot corpses 40 and below.
You can skin mobs based on their model, not by their species. For example, you can’t skin humanoid sailors, but you could skin humanoid yeti’s etc. If you are going to grind in an area, make sure that mob in that area is skinnable.
Apprentice skinning: (1-75)
Alliance: I would grind skinning at the Grizzled Den in Dun Morogh. Killing, looting and skinning the Wendigo there should not be a problem. This is a good area because there are so many Wendigo in the area, a lot of them only carry gold so your bags will not fill up very quickly. You can grind in this area till 75 before you purchase Journeyman Skinning.
Horde: I would start from the main Durotar gate of Orgrimmar. Now head southwest, killing, looting and skinning every hare, boar, raptor, and scorpid. Make your way down to the canyons with Thunder Lizards and Lightning Hides a littlee south west from the gate. Try to have level 10 skinning before you get to the lizards. Get to level 75 in this are before moving on.
Journeyman Skinning (50-150):
Alliance: Head on over to Darkshore. You can head either north or south from Auberdine. There are many cats, bears, and tallstriders to skin in these areas. Try to stick to this area till 150, I know its boring but its the fastest way.
Horde: You will have to bare the Barrens for this section. You can skin EVERY mob in the barrens unless its hanging with a human mob. Remember scorpid-model silithids and antelopes are skinnable too. Dont forget the wailing caverns as they can make you tons of money by skinning Deviate Scales and Perfect Deviate Scales. Reach the cap in the barrens and wailing caverns.
Expert Skinning (125-225):
I would head over to Hillsbrad Foothills killing and skinning bears and cats until your skill is about 150-165. Now, head on over to the yeti cave, kill, loot and skin the yeti there until you max out Expert Skinning. You can also skin the turtles wandering around in the river, if the area is busy or you are getting ganked, get out of the cave and head north to skin the yeti you find there.
As an alternate you can skin cats and hyenas in Thousand Needles. Once you hit around 150-170 head south to the Shimmering Flats to max out.
Alliance: If these areas have too many horde players, head on over to Duskwood. Go to the northeast corner and in a counter-clockwise direction skin the creatures along the beach. Once you hit the road, head east and kill and skin the wolves and mastiffes. Kill Worgen once you are around 140, and the head south to Stranglethorn Vale to max out your skinning at this level.
Artisan Skinning (200-300):
Now head on over to Feralas. Head to zone 56, 58, Killing and skinning whatever beasts you find along the way (bears, wolves, hippogryphs, faerie dragons). There you will find Feral Scar Vale; you need skinning 220 for this, so make sure you have it before you get there. Once your skinning is at 225 – 240, move on to Rage Scar Hold. Max out skinning in this area.
Tip: Once you hit 200 you can wear Enchanted Skinning Gloves. So look for some on the AH or get someone to make them for you. These increase your skinning level by 5.
Master Skinning (300-375):
Pretty much the only thing in Outland that you can skin are helboars. If you want an easier zone to skin to around 330 try Ice Thistle Yeti in Winterspring. When you hit 330 head over to Nagrand; skin the talbuk and clefthoof as they spawn all over the place.
Now the fun and expensive skinning can begin! 375 will let you skin level 75 corpses. You will need skinning buffs for corpses higher than 75. So head on over to Northrend and skin the hell out of the place.
Grand Master Skinning (375-450)
375-400 Head on over to the Borean Tundra and skin Wooly Rhino, there are a ton in this area. Check the link.
400-450 Head on over to the Howling Fjord. There are many beasts to skin here including Shoveltusk, Shoveltusk Calf, Shoveltusk Forager, Shoveltusk Stag,Reef Cow and more. Check out the howling fjord link for more beasts in this area.

This is an amazing guide. on a 68 boomkin I got 1-375 skinning in about 4.5 hours. Here I come Northrend! And btw, if you don’t want to go all the way to Feralas, you can go to hinterlands as well, start at aerie peak and work your way east, then skin the wolves out there til your maxed out.

This guide is great because I got my skinning from one to three-hundred in 2 hours. Feralas was not fun at all though.. But I went to wailing caverns instead of where it told alliance to go because by the third boss I had 140 skinning.
